Greetings from The University of New Hampshire!1 We’re still more than a week away from spring, but we’re having unseasonably warm weather this week, so I fueled up the scooter, ready to start styling around town again! This scooter is one of the best investments I’ve ever made. I bought it from my nephew who had owned it in highschool, but now lives in Boston. I’ve been riding it for 10 years around UNH and around town. It’s the best because all of the areas I drive in are 25 MPH speed limits, so it’s perfect. And if I have one problem with UNH, it’s the parking. The parking sucks. There, I said it. But there are some designated scooter parking spots around campus, including one right behind my building, so that makes me totally happy. Scooter doesn’t like to go very well when the temperature is below 40, so I’ve had it put up for a few months. But today it’s looking like it will be almost 60 degrees, so I plan to start enjoying the convenience again.
Spring Break is next week, and you know my goal was to place all of my students in their internships by then. As of today, I have 22/26 students placed. I have leads for all four of the remaining students, but I don’t think I’m going to make it. But overall things look good across the board - many new opportunities this year that look great, and all of the experiences are paid. I am looking forward to visiting each of them this summer because I think they are going to all be great.
We’re almost there, friends. The winter only has a few gasps left. As usual, willing good for all of you!

What: BLS Career Outlook, People and management skills: Career options projected to have fast growth and many openings
https://www.bls.gov/careeroutlook/2025/article/people-and-management-skills.htm
Why: The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) lists health services managers as a rapid growth field over the next 10 years. Why? Adaptability, project management skills, and leadership. This made me happy so I sent it to all my students.
**
What: WSJ, The Passive-Aggressive Doughnuts That Tanked a Job Interview
Why: A series of funny (and disastrous) anecdotes from recruiters who are trying to place job candidates. Example:
A candidate was interviewing with the client in a room with a large window looking out onto the street in Washington, D.C. The candidate was facing the window, the hiring manager had their back to the window.
During the interview, the candidate all of a sudden goes, “Wow, that’s a great looking chick who just walked by!”

Watch
What: Life Advice from Tom Hanks (2 min)
Why: Here’s the summary: “Show up on time, know the text, have an idea.” He generalizes it to work in other professions, and life in general. Well worth two minutes.

Listen
What: EconTalk, Will Guidara on Unreasonable Hospitality (58 min)
Why: I happened to read Will Guidara’s book, Unreasonable Hospitality while I was watching The Bear, and I thought, man, that’s just like what they talk about in The Bear, and then I learned from listening to this interview that Guidara is a producer for The Bear! I wrote about his book back in RWL #385 so I won’t repeat what I said, but this interview is a great entre into the book if you are interested in a radical approach to service that emphasizes the humanity of service, and the gift of giving to others.
It occurred to me, after nearly 10 years of writing this newsletter, that when I write my “greetings from UNH" that people might think I am speaking on behalf of the institution. That is very funny. I’m not sure that the UNH president could pick me out in a line up. So please understand that all opinions expressed here are my own, and do not represent the institutional positions of UNH. It’s akin to me writing, Greetings from America! And someone saying I am writing I am a spokesman for the US government. As much as I might want it to be so, no one of reasonable judgement is going to believe it to be so.
