Greetings from … London! We’re back to classes in a little less than two weeks, so as I mentioned Sunday, TLW and I decided to make a break for it and take a little vacation. We’re staying with a mutual friend who has opened her home and her knowledge of the city to us, which has made it a wonderful trip. Nothing like staying with friends in a far-away place. This is my first time visiting London and I am loving it. I am seeing so many places I have read about or seen pictures or videos of, but have never seen in person. For example, we’ve walked over the Tower Bridge (on the right in the pic above) and toured the Tower of London (the castle on the left in the pic above). I got this picture from the top of the Shard, a glass and steel skyscraper that has a public viewing deck. I highly recommend all three, and London generally. There is so much history and cultural structure here to absorb - I could bore you with all the great things we’ve seen - but I won’t. I just recommend you come check it out yourself.
This will be a short post this week - I’ll catch up with you all next week when I’m back in country. Till then, willing good for all of you! And mind the gap!

What: William Ernest Henley, Invictus
https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/51642/invictus
Why: TLW and I saw the poet William Ernest Henley’s grave in St. Paul’s Cathedral. The tour guide we were with quoted this from his poem, Invictus:
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
I love those lines, but the whole poem is good, so click on it and read it. It is elevating. Between St. Paul’s and Westminster, it was amazing to see a country honor so many great literary figures.
