RWL Newsletter #66
Greetings from the University of New Hampshire where suddenly it is fall! It seemed like summer would drag on, but suddenly the leaves are all changing and cooler temperatures are upon us. Coming off last week's conference, I am so far behind, I feel like I may as well let myself get lapped to catch up! Ever have one of those weeks?
This week's links are all student sponsored. Students found my article and video; two students actually made the suggested podcast. I hope you enjoy them. In case you don't know, I've got the best students.
Read
What: CNN, How the 'heroin heroine' saves lives from her living room
http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/02/health/heroin-heroine-naloxone-eprise-profile/index.html
Why: My student Mikayla shared this article on her blog. Real ethical issue here. I'm pretty libertarian in my views on drugs. This one makes me take serious pause.
Watch
What: TED, What happens when you have a disease doctors can't diagnose, Jennifer Brea
https://youtu.be/Fb3yp4uJhq0
Why: Recommended by my student Alexis. In the past I've done some research on the use of social media for people with rare diseases to share information and support each other, so seeing Alexis' post made me reflect on the challenges those people face and the struggles they feel. In particular, they are often mis-diagnosed initially, and then they have trouble finding providers who know how to care for them. As I often note, you never want to be the "interesting patient."
Listen
What: Health Leader Forge, Samantha O'Neill, VP of HR, The Elliot Health System
http://healthleaderforge.blogspot.com/2017/10/samantha-oneill-vp-of-hr-elliot-health_15.html
Why: The latest interview from my Health Leader Forge podcast, actually done by two of my students, Kayli Mathews and Nicole Bishop. Nicole and Kayli interview Sam O'Neill, VP of HR for one of the largest hospitals in New Hampshire. Sam has done HR for financial, high-tech, and manufacturing industries before coming to health care. Very interesting interview and Kayli and Nicole do a great job!
Thanks for reading and see you next week! If you come across any interesting stories, won't you send them my way? I'd love to hear what you think of these suggestions, and I'd love to get suggestions from you. Feel free to drop me a line by e-mail, or you can tweet to me at @bonicatalent .
