RWL Newsletter #5
Happy Friday! Thanks for subscribing to the Read, Watch, Listen newsletter.
I don't have a theme this week - just some cool tid-bits to share!
Read
What: from Fast Co Design, Brainstorming is Dumb
Why: This is a quick read that explains why the classic technique doesn’t work all that well. There is a lot of literature that supports this fact. Brainwriting is an interesting alternative. Worth considering if you are working with a group to come up with creative ideas.

Watch
What: Public health journalist Maryn McKenna’s TED Talk, What do we do when antibiotics don't work anymore?
Why: Highlights the importance of antibiotics in modern life. I knew from my years working in clinics that most clinicians (by their own admission) over-prescribe antiobiotics. I didn’t know about the use of antibiotics in agriculture until I read Michael Pollan's book, The Ominivore's Dilemma, which I highly recommend. This talk highlights the way that all aspects of our ecology are linked together.

What: my Health Leader Forge Interview with Katie Fullam Harris, SVP of Government Relations and Accountable Care Strategy, MaineHealth.
Why: MaineHealth is the largest integrated healthcare delivery network in Maine. Katie is one of the system’s senior executives. Her role involves advocating on behalf of MaineHealth and its members and affiliates with the state and local legislators, regulators, and other government officials, as well as advising senior leadership on how to respond to the changes in the legal and regulatory environment. In other words, she does applied health policy. She’s had an interesting career and it’s certainly something you could potentially follow if this kind of work sounds like it appeals to you.
