RWL Newsletter #10
Greetings from Durham and happy Friday! It got down into the 40's last night up here - fall is on the way!
For your reading, watching, and listening pleasure this weekend, I suggest to you the following links:
Read
What: from Becker's, 5 Traits of High Reliability Organizations: How to Hardwire Each in Your Organization, by Molly Gamble
Why: We're talking about transforming your hospital into a high reliability organization (HRO) next week in my management course and I came across this article when I was doing background research. I thought it was accessible and did a good job explaining what an HRO is and does.

Watch
What: from the WSJ, Untreated: Hepatitis C, America's Prison Epidemic (3 minutes)
Why: America imprisons more citizens per capita than any other country in the world (including China). Our prisons are the source of a variety of social ills, and represent serious public health risks. One of those risks is the spread of contagious disease, such as Hepatitis C. Inmates engage in a variety of unsafe practices that allow for the spread of such diseases. Prison health systems are chronically underfunded to deal with the variety of health issues inmates face. As a result, states are rationing Hep C drugs to sickest inmates. What should be done?

Listen
What: Health Leader Forge interview with Dr. Raymond Levy, PsyD, Executive Director of the Fatherhood Project
Why: Dr. Levy and The Fatherhood Project provide programming to at-risk families, helping men learn how to be better fathers. The Fatherhood Project focuses on underserved populations such as low income families, and men in prison. Dr. Levy talks about his 35 years of experience as a psychodynamic psychotherapist, how The Fatherhood Project was a logical evolution of his practice.
