I had the immense privilege of walking my eldest daughter down the aisle yesterday, so this weekend’s post never really got done. I had some thoughts around doing more with the eros/agape discussion I wrote about previously, but I actually spent all my time turning it into the speech I gave at the wedding.
The wedding itself was lovely, and the reception was just getting under way when the fire alarm was triggered. We all had to evacuate even as we were waiting in line for our first cocktail. I was very worried my daughter would be heartbroken that her reception was disrupted, but she and her new husband took it all in stride and made lemonade from lemons. Our dear from Colonel (retired) Keith W. (left) approached the firemen as they were wrapping up and asked if the newlyweds could pose in the truck. The firemen were delighted to support the event, and even took pictures themselves.
It goes to show how much attitude matters. The newlyweds now have a story they will be telling for the rest of their lives, and it is more interesting than if everything had gone off without a hitch. There is something to say for being flexible and having resilience.
Thanks for your patience - I’ll be back on schedule next weekend.
