Greetings from the LHH![i] The first chapter of my book is almost done, which is good because I need to send it to the publisher for review tomorrow. Plus, I have to head out of town for another intern site visit. I have to be honest; this July has been exhausting. A lot of windshield time coupled with trying to write and other things has kept me extremely busy. Also, some other news coming soon for me, I think. I’ll just leave it vague, like a FaceBook post from 2011 when we were all oversharing in public. Some of us never really stopped.
Ooh – I am almost through a fabulous book called James. It is the retelling of the Huckleberry Finn story from the perspective of Jim, the enslaved man who accompanied Huck on his adventures. It’s excellent.
OK – to the links. Let me know what you think in the comments. As usual, willing good for all of you!

Why: Thanks to D.R. for sharing this article. How does one fail publicly, but honestly?

What: Inc., The Coldplay Concert Couple Can’t Be Trusted to Lead
https://www.inc.com/suzanne-lucas/the-coldplay-concert-couple-cant-be-trusted-to-lead/91215059
Why: In contrast to Amanda Anisimova, how to fail publicly, badly. In case you have been hiding under a rock, a CEO and his chief of human resources were caught on the “kiss cam” at a Cold Play concert having an affair. The Evil HR Lady has thoughts.

Watch
What: The Moth, Bonnie Levison | Spencer No-Tunick (10 min)
Why: I recently rediscovered The Moth through Instagram (this link is through YouTube). The Moth is a story-telling venue. People tell 10’ish minute true stories from their own lives. This one is about an exceptionally tall woman about getting self-acceptance. And being part of a mass, nude photo.

Listen
What: The Dispatch, The Bad Faith Problem | Interview: Jamie Weinstein (32 min)
Why: I’m a fan of The Dispatch. I don’t share their podcast very often because it’s more of a round table format, but in this episode, the tables are turned on one of the hosts who talks about interviewing and what makes a good interview. Interesting even if you don’t follow the Dispatch. You learn something about the craft.
[i] The LHH is the Last Homely House. But also, I just want to be super clear that the opinions expressed here are my own, not those of UNH or any related organization, nor are they TLW’s, who frequently tells me I am off my rocker, nor any other person who might be embarrassed by my musings. They are mine, all mine.
Had to laugh at the nude photo story. I met Spencer Tunick in 1997 at a campground by Mt. Rushmore. He was looking for subjects for a project he was working on. He and his assistant approached us at our campsite picnic table and pitched us on his idea of taking our nude portraits in the early morning with Mt. Rushmore in the background. It was a liberating experience. Also, an honor and a thrill!
