Greetings from The University of New Hampshire! Another week, another newsletter! Also another picture of the sun rising over the Oyster River. You can’t get tired of one of those things. I’ve not been able to go to BJJ practice for a week because I caught ringworm (yuck - it’s actually a fungal infection). It’s one of the risks of practicing a grappling art where everyone is sweaty and rolling around on the floor together. Hopefully back later this week. But it did make more time for paddling.
A couple of homegrown links this week - I hope you don’t mind! As usual, willing good for all of you!

What: WSJ, They’re Breaking Every Retirement Rule to Be Off Now, Not Later
Why: An interesting perspective on not saving for a rainy day. Be the grasshopper, not the ant. Other traditional ideas of thrift thrown out the window. This is exactly the polar opposite of my life. The idea of not working hard while you are young so you can have a secure future is bizarre to me. Maybe that’s why I’m a grumpy old(ish) man. Is this just irresponsible? I want it to be, because if it isn’t, I shouldn’t have worked so hard. (Can you see I am a little jealous? But also think these kids are stupid. But also jealous. Uggh.)
Let me know what you think.

Watch
What: ACHE of NNE, The Power and Potential of Highly Engaged Teams
Why: I helped host a panel on coaching teams yesterday. We’re (the ACHE of NNE) are sharing the recording to our new YouTube channel. If you’re an ACHE member, you can watch this recording for 1 hour of qualified credit (don’t forget to self report!).

Listen
What: Flourishing in the World, Aquinas and De Regno with Dr. Susan Siggelakis (68 min)
Why: In case you missed it - here’s my recent podcast with my colleague Sue Siggelakis. I love that Sue talks about virtue at the end - I probably should have used that segment as the introductory clip. There is not enough discussion of virtue in today’s common discourse.

What: People I (mostly) Admire, How to Breathe Better (65 min)
Why: I did not expect to find this episode interesting and thought I would give it a couple of minutes before I deleted it. Instead, I found it fascinating and I’ve been thinking about it for several days. It’s definitely personal fitness-oriented - I have been trying to focus on my breathing much more. A fun and interesting listen.
